Rewritten In Their Names is a history podcast about the enslaved women whose labor colonial Trinidad was built on, and whom its history refused to name.
The colonial record named these women only to punish, price, or count them. Trinidad’s public history remembers the men who enslaved them; it does not remember the women. This podcast begins in that record and reads it against itself, following one woman as far as the surviving evidence allows, recovering her name, her work, her relationships, and what her life reveals about enslavement in Trinidad, without inventing what the archive does not tell us.
